FCN’s SNAP Chapter Represents at National Student Nurses Association Convention

Twenty-two Villanova nurses represented the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing at the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) Convention at Disney Coronado Springs, April 3-7, 2024.

Villanova Nursing’s Chapter of the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) 2024-25 President Isabella Galasso led the delegation, which included advisor and Associate Professor Carol Weingarten, PhD, RN, ANEF and Anne M. Fink ’11 PhD, RN, CNE, Associate Dean for College and Student Services and Director, LEAD Professional Development Program.

FCN was a sponsor of the convention and an active participant in the activities:

  • Dr. Weingarten, who represents the NSNA on the Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC), presented “Making It Real: The Importance, Opportunity and Impact of Nurses’ Service on Boards,” at two sessions with Laurie Benson, NOBC Executive Director. Dr. Weingarten also spoke at the opening ceremonies. 
  • Second-year student Hailey Falzone sang the national anthem at the convention’s opening ceremonies.
  • Second-year students Megan Le and Faith Bordenabe co-authored and presented the chapter’s resolution, “In Support of Postvention Mental Health Strategies for High School Students Following Suicide of a Peer,” which was passed by the House of Delegates and now becomes a policy of the NSNA and source of school and state service projects.

  • Cody Mitchell (BSN FLEX, Class of 2024) and Dr. Weingarten presented the poster, “Belonging, Membership, Professional Identity and Inclusion through the Local, State and National Student Nurses Associations” at the NSNA Poster Showcase. Mitchell, 2023-24 President of SNAP Villanova, also completed his yearlong term as a director on the NSNA Board.
  • State SNAP Legislative Coordinator Megan Le and Region Coordinator Hailey Falzone, both second-year students, represented Villanova in their roles at the convention.

Dr. Anne Fink presents in the convention’s Career Compass Center.
  • Dr. Fink provided career advice, resume reviews, and guidance to nursing students at the convention’s Career Compass Center and offered four presentations for faculty and students audiences:

- Are your Graduates Ready to LEAD? Creating a Program to Foster Professionalism and Strategic Career Success”
- “Communication: The Key to Career Success” 
- “How to Ace your Interview: Proven Strategies for Success”
- “Leading Authentically as a Young-in-Age Nurse”

At the convention, Villanova Nursing also connected with Brian Peach ’04 BSN, ’10 MSN, PhD, RN, of the University of Central Florida-Orlando, who was state Vice President and a SNAP chapter leader while an undergraduate student.
